Buckeyes, Sooners lead post-spring Top 25
ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel writes: Can Texas repeat without Vince Young? Will Ohio State find the answers on defense? Is West Virginia really a contender? Are Notre Dame and Oklahoma among the challengers? Spring practices provided some answers to those questions, so it's time to take an early look at the Top 25 for 2006.

August 8, 2006 Source: The Ozone "The first day of practice went into the books yesterday, and according to Jim Tressel, one of the big items on the agenda was the first-day physical testing that took place. That involved a lot of running, and Tressel said that he even got into the act..."

Starting tight end suspended for season
August 09, 2006 Source: Columbus Dispatch

Starting tight end Marcel Frost has been suspended for the season for a violation of team rules, a source close to the program said last night on condition of anonymity. The source did not detail what team rule was violated, and coach Jim Tressel would not comment. Frost is a fourth-year junior from South Euclid. Sophomore Rory Nicol likely will step into the starting spot. OSU also has sophomore Brandon Smith and two true freshmen at the position: Andy Miller and Jake Ballard.

Update: Frost has transferred to Jackson St., the same school Eric Haw transferred to.

Bucks Land PA Lineman
Offensive guard Evan Blankenship of Monaca (PA) Center Area has committed to Ohio State. The 6-foot-3, 300-pound lineman notified Jim Tressel today that he intends to wear the scarlet and gray in 2007.

Both Pitt and Temple had offered Blankenship, and Notre Dame and Michigan were in hot pursuit. Blankenship's family has strong Ohio roots and he made it clear last week that Ohio State would be tough for any school to beat.

Five-star defensive end Luther Davis continues to express interest in Ohio State
From Bucknuts: "It won't be easy plucking five-star defensive end Luther Davis from the South, but he says he is interested in Ohio State. Davis, ranked as the No. 5 DE prospect in the country by Scout.com, is considering an impressive list of schools and could make his announcment on national television on Aug. 19." Davis, from West Monroe (LA) and 6-4 255lbs with a 4.78 in the 40, has offers from Ohio State, LSU, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Tennessee & USC.

He's indicated that he and fellow teammate Ahmad Paige, a five star receiver, would like to go to the same school. And yes, OSU has offered Paige, according to Davis.

2006 CFN Redshirt Freshman All-America Team
For the past year, they have watched and waited, listened and learned. They've added muscle, committed the playbook to memory and practiced without fanfare on the scout team. They are redshirt freshmen and their time to break free from a season's worth of anonymity and down time has finally arrived. CollegeFootballNews.com mentions one player from Ohio State. Do you know who it is?

Captain's Corner: D-Line Play Will Be The Key

Oddsmakers adjust to new rules in college football

"They greet each other with a quick hug and one of those secret handshakes, a complex combination of slaps and snaps..."

Hughes 'Highly Interested' In OSU
From Bucknuts: "With Daniel Herron and Brandon Saine already in the fold, it is unclear if Ohio State will take another running back in its 2007 class. But since Saine is versatile enough to play wideout, there could be room for one more running back, especially one as talented as Robert Hughes." The Chicago Hubbard star, 5'11 and 226 lbs, rushed for 1892 yards and 19 touchdowns during his junior season. He says he will officially visit the Buckeyes.
